Greater Kuala Lumpur, as the capital of Malaysia, is on a solid trajectory towards becoming a smart city, guided by the Kuala Lumpur Smart City Master Plan 2021-2025. It provides a platform to enhance the city's unique places and environment, foster its innovation ecosystem, celebrate its rich cultural diversity, and strengthen sense of community and belongingness.
As of 2019, the city has already racked up high scores in multiple smart city indexes, including the EasyPark Smart Cities Index, the IMD Smart City Index, Arcadis Sustainable Cities Index, and The Economist Safe City Index.

Greater KL’s smart city initiatives encompass everything from smart mobility, smart infrastructure, smart traffic, and smart governance. Moreover, within Greater KL, several smaller smart cities have cropped up, fueled by both private and public initiatives.
