For the past few years, the authorities have been laying the groundwork for creating a pedestrian network in Greater KL to improve accessibility and safety for those traveling on foot. This initiative will complement other projects currently underway in Greater KL, such as the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and revitalising areas surrounding the Klang River.
By 2020, over 40 kilometres of covered pedestrian and elevated walkways, which are planned for completion, which will eventually allow Greater KL-ites convenient pedestrian access to commercial and leisure sites around the region. The walkways, which will also be disabled-friendly, have been planned following the Safe City Concept, which will include the placement of security devices to keep pedestrians safe.
